Shamanism in Tantra

Shamanism is a spiritual tradition that involves the use of rituals and ceremonies to connect with the spirit world and to bring about spiritual healing and transformation. It is a tradition that has been practiced by indigenous cultures around the world for centuries.

The shamans are people who are able to connect with the spiritual realm in order to bring back knowledge, healing, and guidance for their communities. To do this, the shamans would enter into a state of altered consciousness through drumming, chanting, and other trance induction techniques. In this state, they are able to communicate with spirits and journey to other realms to gather information and guidance. The traditions of shamanism have been passed down through the generations, and continue to be practiced and honored by many people around the world today.

There are some parallels between shamanism and tantra, as both traditions involve the use of ritual and ceremony to connect with the divine and to bring about spiritual transformation. In tantric traditions, the goal of practice is often to cultivate and harmonize the energies of the body, mind, and spirit in order to achieve a state of union and come back to one's essence.

At Trinity, we believe that shamanic practices, when introduced in a safe space, can definitely enrich one's spiritual growth. Both tantra and shamanism involve the use of group practices and rituals, although the specific nature of these practices can vary depending on the tradition and context.  In tantra, group practices often involve the use of meditation, breathwork, dancing, and other rituals to cultivate a sense of unity and connection among participants. These practices may be led by a teacher and may take place in a variety of settings, including temples, retreat centers, or even private homes

At Trinity , practices may also incorporate elements of shamanism such as the use of symbols and rituals to connect with the spirit world and invoke spiritual energies. Some tantric practices may involve the use of dancing, singing, drumming, and chanting so as to induce altered states of consciousness in which we can access deeper levels of the unconscious mind and connect with spiritual energies.
